The Final Week of Term 1

For our final week we repeated last week’s menu of:

Pasta with a Vegetable Sauce

Curried Eggs

Pizza of the Imagination

Pumpkin and Spinach Salad

Salad of the Imagination

There were countless changes to staff, times, routines, etc. so it was really good to be doing a repeat menu. I think we should do this for the final week of every term.

The base of the pizza oven is now complete – building of the oven will take place in June.

All of the raised beds in the new garden have been planted with seeds or seedlings! Brocolli, Cauliflower, Garlic, Broad Beans, Coriander, Rocket, Parsley, Lettuce, Onions, Spring Onions, Cabbage, Kale and Snow Peas! We have also re-planted several of our existing beds, mainly with garlic, broad beans and coriander.

Jobe carefully waters the seeds

Thomaz planted snow peas

Shannon planted rocket in one of the raised beds

We continue to be thrilled with the way that our students are embracing the program and eating such a wide range of foods. This week we saw Michael eating pasta, Jack B eating pasta sauce and raw pasta (while he was cooking it!) and pizza, and Daniel tucking in to pumpkin and spinach salad.

Michael really enjoyed the pasta

Jobe enjoyed the pasta raw!

Next term we start a new five week block consisting of:

·         Ravioli

·         Bread rolls

·         Salad

·         A vegetable dish

·         Soup

The menu for week 1 is:

Ravioli filled with Spinach and Ricotta and served with a Tomato Sauce

Salad of the Imagination

Wholemeal Rolls

Curried Carrot and Apple Soup

Potato Wedges

And here are some photos:

A Collection of Photos

I am going to keep the writing to a minimum this week and mainly add photos.
·      It was a good week – we repeated some favourite recipes
·      Curried Eggs -  are such a good item, lots    of student participation and always popular
·      Pasta with Vegetable Sauce -  a great way to be able to include whatever is harvested or donated – the sugarsnap pea sauce was really delicious!
·      Salad of the Imagination – again a good way to include whatever we have available
·      Pumpkin and Spinach Salad – one of our regular favorites and we have lots of home grown pumpkins at the moment
·       Pizza of the Imagination – and more opportunity to use what is available – we were give lots of capsicums this week so roasted them and used them on pizzas; we also had lots of our own tomatoes and basil to use.
·      We will be repeating these recipes next week.
·      Now for photos:
